Sol 182 / Year 2040 (Decasol 19, Sol 2)
The first landing of human being on the planet Mars took place a 10:46 CET. An automated signal was broadcast by the Hab on contact with the surface and the Mission Commander confirmed this a few seconds later with a radio message that was heard live by an estimated 3.6 billion people.
The crew took time to check the structural integrity of the Hab before each of them broadcast a brief message home in their own language.
Because of the delay in transmission time, it will be impossible to have a normal conversation with the astronauts but journalists have been able to send questions which the crew will answer when time allows.
