Opening Ceremony

October 5th 2041

The new three chambered factory block was officially opened today with a formal ceremony involving the cutting of a ribbon.

Base Commander, Heinrich Bachmeier, cut the ribbon, which had been made using fibres grown in Greenhouse 2.

The new block, now given the official title 'Stephenson' has proven to be even more sophisticated than the original design called for. The plan was to build three large vaulted chambers that could be used primarily for storage and processing equipment. The team became more proficient at construction than mission planners had hoped. It was therefore possible to securely pressurise the chambers and link them using three tunnels which will eventually be sealed at both ends. The central tunnel will be large enough for the movement of machinery. In addition there are six double walled 'porches' which will eventually become airlocks when doors can be manufactured.

All in all, Stephenson represents a huge step forward in the construction of Alpha Base and in the development of human ability on Mars.
