Christmas 2041

25th December 2041

For the celebration of the second Martian Christmas, all twenty two team members gathered together in Alpha Base. This year the team made a special effort to share food that reflected the cultural diversity of team members, although this was always going to be tricky given the availability of certain food types.

Music was also provides, organised by Marian Osterbrock from Alpha 3 who brought a violin to Mars with her. Other team members played improvised percussion instruments, and team leader, Heinrich Bachmeier, played a harmonica.

Christians on the team held an impromptu service during the midnight hour in one of the greenhouses with carols, readings and prayers. Davi Câmara said that they choose the greenhouse to emphasise the theme of life and the holiness of creation: "the Christ-child symbolises for us the original creative impulse behind the universe and God's desire to recreate and improve life in each successive generation."
