Work began today on the construction of three long block houses near to the main accommodation block at Alpha Base.
Each of these three rectangular buildings will be roughly twice the length of a Hab module and will be built alongside each other stretching away from the existing accommodation block.
They will not be linked to the Habs at this point but will be pressurised. Each block will have a simple airlock which will be fitted at one end. The three chambers will not be linked.
Although this may sound like a very simple structure, it represents one of the most ambitious construction tasks taken on by the team yet. This task has been made possible by the arrival of the heavy rover on Alpha A8.
It is planned that the three blockhouses will be used as storage or as space for machinery.
